Create your ideal lifestyle vision first. It’s hard to shove your ideal lifestyle into a busy business, but if you create that vision first, you can then build your business to support it.

Vision is the ability to create something wonderful in your imagination. There’s a spiritual connotation to the ability to have vision. It taps into our deepest wisdom and creativity. Having clarity about your life is the most essential element of being successful. If you know what you are creating, you’ll know what steps to take to make it real.

You must develop a clear vision for different areas in your life. You have to know where you want to go before you plan your trip and start traveling. In the bigger picture, this step teaches you to live by design instead of by default. The clearer your vision, the more likely you are to create it.

A clear vision is the first step on the road to satisfaction and success. It provides the key components of progress:

Direction. You go where your attention is, and your vision is the roadmap of your journey. It shows you where everything is, where you are and where you want to go in your life. Most people float through life with no roadmap – not knowing where they are going or where they want to end up.

Focus. When you know where you’re going, it’s easy to stay on the road to get there. Distractions are like side roads that you can choose not to go down. You go where your attention goes.

Action. Vision causes you to be proactive. It puts you in the driver’s seat so you create your reality and not merely react to it.

Clarity. Imagine trying to drive through a thick fog. When you have a vision, it’s like the sun breaking through the clouds on the clear, open highway. You know what’s in front of you, and you know what to expect along the way.

Power. When you have a vision, setbacks and obstacles are seen as minor bumps along the way. When you’re committed to the destination, you have more power to keep moving forward.

Remember, whatever you can conceive and believe as possible, you can achieve. You don’t have to know how it will happen. This is how happy and wealthy people have done it for centuries. Hold onto your vision – it’s your North Star.

Love your post. I recently wrote about “how do you define success?” and the parallels are there — as in, if you don’t know what is meaningful and defines success for you in your life, your daily actions become like throwing spaghetti at a wall to see what sticks (did that cliche come about because someone really tried this I wonder?).

Love your metaphor of driving in a thick fog. Unfortunately so many people are operating there, only seeing the next three feet in front of them and not clear on what they are really trying to create.

Liked this post as it served as a checklist for where I am right now and made me feel I am right on track. Thanks.
